    i have a whole different issue with my gaming addiction. i sit at my computer for 12-16 hours a day maybe more I'm not sure I sleep maybe 4 hours tops and i game all day yet I'm never satisfied always looking for something new, but it only quells my thirst for entertainment for a few minutes honestly I've played 200 hours of sekiro done hitless runs where i only beat the game in an hour and 30ish minutes i want desperately to find and do new things but im so comfortable in my room finding a new hobby is unerving im bored even writing this i might sleep soon tbh ive been awake for 37 hours playing kingdom come deliverance gonna stop yapping now.

    for me it feels like video games and things like them can be really good and really bad for you depending on how you indulge in them. like video games can be very bad if youre playing 15 hours a day but an hour or 2 or even 3 some days can be a great way to spend time with friends who many be far away and to just kind of let go for a little especially when youre stressed. especially when youre able to find something else that you enjoy and love doing in the real world that you can also do to take your mind off of things or to enjoy life besides video games can be a great way to balance it and still be able to enjoy video games.

    35 here. got into gaming in 1994 and PC gaming in 2004. Currently an Engineer, and have a wife. If youre having fun, it isnt a waste of time and you can have a completely NORMAL life. My grandfather used to make ships in glass bottles that took hundreds of hours, surely a waste of time to most people, but its what HE ENJOYED.

    • @MashedLinux
      @MashedLinux 4 дні тому

      Of course, I think it depends on the person. I know for me, I take it to an excess, so for me personally it's best if I simply avoid it all together. I think the nuance is that your Grandfather actually created something, whereas to me, there is nothing physical that is manifested from a video game 99% of the time. That's how I see it

      @@MashedLinux I'm the same. Listening to videos on quitting (like yours) now. I read a sci fi book my friend gave me last week. I hadn't read a new book in years. I loved it. It gave me a kind of happiness I don't often feel. Then? Back to video games and porn. Like a joyless dungeon I'm trapped in. Stay strong man. Some ppl can drink and not be alcoholics, others need to just say no and move on. Same with gaming and probably anything else.

    I feel like the main reason Sekiro is so addicting at least in my opinion is the combat. It's so smooth and clean, landing a perfect parry is so satisfying and to finally beat that one boss you were stuck on is such a rewarding feeling. The combat is genuinely memorizing when perfected.

    Every young man wants to go on adventures. However for whatever reasons when most addicted video game players were young they were locked in the house all the time. What else does the young mind do but seek that adventure thrill from video games, anime or books. Now we are adults we have the ability of self control of our environment. We need to let go of this habit that helped us pass the time when we were younger as it now has become suffocating instead of the reward that it once was.

    • @FirstLast-fr4mx
      @FirstLast-fr4mx 4 дні тому

      The problem with games like elden ring and sekiro it gives the illusion of progression. Because you’re levelling up in this video game it gives your brain the same type of rewards you would get from levelling up in real life. It also gives this reward points much faster and less painfully than you would from working out for example. Seeing notable change from working out could take weeks/months depending on where you are at in your journey. Also when you’re working out you’re dealing with stress both physical and mental. However these games will give you this reward almost daily/weekly on little cost. You don’t have to leave the house in an a presentable manner all you have to do is press a couple buttons and your instantly in the game.

      It’s the ultimate sedation combined with corn, fast food and social media you have all your Carnel needs met: lust, gluttony and a false sense of companionship.

      The worst thing is when you see a game on steam/ps store that you like that is on sale and you give yourself the excuse that your inevitably going to play it so it’s better to at least buy it now when it’s at a sale. You just deceiving yourself into thinking your making a good financial decision but your not driven by rationality because when you look back on many of the purchases you think to yourself why did I buy this.

    I feel you brother, it is rough. But you are not alone! Remember that God will not tempt us more than that which we are capable. Each day better than the last, compare who you are today to who you were yesterday and you'll see you've made amazing progress to who you were before. Take courage in the fact that you can do this. Finding something to do with your friends that you find worth your time is great even if it is online like D&D where you get to talk to each other more and be more human (but that's just me). I found out about the easy peasy method book from you and that was a fantastic help for me and my addictions. Thanks for making videos!

      I'm not a religious person in the slightest, but the frame of mind that I will not be tempted beyond my capabilities is really resonating with me. That's gonna be echoing in my head for a while, thank you!

    Really good video. So many people are caught in the tinkerer's mindset. Imagine you need your car to drive to work, and you're constantly tweaking engine timings, testing different fuel additives, if the car goes down, you can't work! If you want a hobby OS dual boot or get another hobby computer. LOVE the browser extensions! The browser will always trap you.

    You may never use it again (you first program), but it did two things- 1. it taught me how useful it can be- long term (30+ years!) and it was an excellent learning experience for you. Keep up the fantastic vids. Thank you! As a request/ suggestion for comparison between bash and python: why not write the equivalent of the first program in bash you wrote in python? Maybe even do a live so we can all learn along with you teaching us? Now that would be awesome!
